Reflecting on my employment journey, certain interviews, phone conversations, and resumes begin to stick out as really bad missteps. We’ve all done it. You send a resume off, and then in the middle of the night you sit straight up in bed and scream, “SHIT! I totally wrote ASS instead of AS on my resume! Wow, totally not getting that job.”
Another thing you should never do when looking for jobs is never EVER answer the phone by screaming, “OMG TELL ME EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!” Unless you are 100% sure the number calling you is actually the person you are intending to scream into the phone at. Because when that ‘blocked’ number showed up on my phone, and I just assumed it was my friend calling me back after we’d been disconnected, and it actually turned out to be a potential employer, well let’s just say that’s a surefire way to make yourself feel like an ASS.
Really, there is nothing more uncomfortable than screaming into the phone at a complete stranger for absolutely no reason and then suddenly trying to switch into ‘professional mode’ to convince them that you actually have your shit together.
At this rate, I might be jobless till I’m 80.
