So here's the deal. Winter and I haven't exactly been getting along lately. Winter is kind of a downer of sorts and is constantly being all, "YOU HAVE NOTHING! GIVE UP!" And I'm like, "Wow winter, you're kind of a douche canoe." And then winter bitch slaps me and I cry.
So yeah, winter is a dick.
That is until recently. This month winter decided to give me a break by giving me things like high 50's and sunny for weeks at a time. All of a sudden I can't help but be all, "Wow winter, I've never seen this side of you! Did you lose weight?" And then winter smiles and we skip off into the sunset holding hands.
Most recently I've found that it is fairly hard to dwell on the bitchiness of winter while you lay on warm sand. This weekend Adam and I packed the car and the dog, high-fived winter and headed to a little beach town an hour and a half from Olympia called Ocean Shores. There seems to be something about this little spec on the map that reaches inside that messy brain of mine and straightens everything out. Once this very shore gave me strength, once it provided a welcome vacation, and now, a little bit of sanity.
I don't know what it is about me and the beach, but there is nothing like the ocean to help me reflect on life and make me feel all warm and fuzzy and shit.
I assume this too shall pass.

I hate water with a passion but even I have to admit that the ocean is SO AMAZINGLY RELAXING. The Republican and I decided that next time we high tail it to the coast, Nix will come with us. Because the only thing better than the ocean itself is the ocean coupled with an adorable puppy.

TORI -- I completely agree. I do way more outdoorsy things these days for the benefit of the pooch.
Plus, who doesn't love the look of a puppy running through the surf?
Maybe evil people.
But that right there is why I don't invite them to the coast with me.

"winter is a dick" I think that's a song I need to write. It goes like this "suck it..suck it ...suck it...hey Florida and your freezing weather...SUCK IT!" (it's not very good I know..because Winter is a dick that saps all creativity!
I love the photo of reading....I just adore them always.
Also Happy Birthday Oly!! I don't know when Chloe's birthday is because we adopted her. I just randomly bring her things and say "Happy Birthday!" ...I do that a lot. I mean A LOT!! I love my dog like you love Oly.
p.s. thanks for your kind comment recently.

KRISTY -- Don't give up on your 'winter is a dick' song. I think it has potential.
And you never need to thank me, I could see you needed the internet hug. Hope things are a little better.

Ahhhh the beach! It holds so many memories. It's constantly changing yet always the same, and that is so comforting. I love it any time of year. Your beaches up there are so beautiful! We have dog beach down here. I loved to take my dog down there and unleash him and watch him run straight into the water and then run up to some poor unsuspecting sunbather and shake for all he was worth, at which point I would pretend he wasn't mine.

Oh man, I know how you feel about winter. This winter, being my first in almost three years, has gone by in kind of a daze. When spring comes, I'm going to go nuts. Flip flops EVERY DAY until October. :)

That looks awesome.
Also, I would like you to come to Michigan and follow my son and me around with your camera for the day. Then we'd have some good tangible memories of winter too. :) Your pics are always great!!

RACHEL -- I grew up in the land of constant flip flops, so when I moved to WA I was seriously lacking in the *real* shoe department. I spent my first winter walking to the cafeteria wearing SOCKS AND FLIP FLOPS. It drove my friends crazy. Which is exactly why I kept doing it.
PENELOPE -- I will be happy to be you and your sons photog for the day. Send me the ticket and I am SO there.

Hahahahaha socks and flip flops. When I got back from Brazil, I had to wear closed toe shoes every day, even though I barely had for a very long time. I got an ingrown toenail as a result. Weee.
