All winter long I envisioned my perfect winter getaway weekend.
A cabin in the middle of nowhere.
A fireplace and next to it a cozy chair so I could read the afternoon away.
Cross-country skiing out my front door.
Wine in the hot tub at night.
Where do I sign Alaska?
Right before I found out we'd have to move I said whatthehell and booked us a weekend in the middle of nowhere to cash in on my winter getaway Alaskan experience. Yes, I know where you are a mid March weekend would be the perfect SPRING weekend, but here in Alaska we're still enjoying winter weekends, so just go with me.
There's not much to say besides how amazing it was. From the house, to the view, to the cross-country skiing on a frozen lake with perfect sunny weather surrounded by picturesque mountains, to seeing the Northern Lights from our hot tub, it was just WOW after WOW after WOW.
Sure, when we got home we'd find we were covered in a rash from the hot tub which hadn't been "shocked" fully, and yeah that sucked, but hey! For a second I thought it was shingles again, so finding out it was something other than shingles made me downright thrilled! Cabin hot tub rash that isn't shingles FTW!
And really I don't hold it against the place, I'll totally come back next time. It's just next year I'll be sure in my reservation to request they give the tub a triple check for correct chemical levels. Plus, the owners were nice enough to reimburse us our hospital co-pays, so that's a nice touch too.
Basically, the view is too great to stay away.
So, with no further ado I present you with my Alaskan winter weekend. I highly suggest you take one, minus the hot tub rash of course.
