Adam's parents are here so this weekend we headed south to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center so we could get up close and personal with some of Alaska's wild beasts. It's amazing how animals like moose and bears, two things that when you encounter while hiking are absolutely terrifying (because hi, they can kill you!) seem so delightfully cuddly when behind a fence.
While at the center full grown moose seemed like something I wanted to reach through the bars and pet. That porcupine over there, ADORABLE! Can I have one? Musk ox! Need to live in my backyard. And the Grizzly bears, the one animal that makes hiking and camping in Alaska a terrifyingly not enjoyable experience at times were a downright DELIGHT to behold. Before you know it you're thinking to yourself, "Why am I so scared of these sweet things when I'm hiking? I mean, look at that goofy mug!"
If you find yourself in the Anchorage area make a stop in. I mean, if nothing else so you can marvel at things like the daily baby moose bottle feedings.
Awkward moose sleeps awkwardly.
