One of the things that I enjoyed probably more than I should have during our road trip was chronicling it bit by bit using Instagram Stories. It was so fun to be able to take little snapshots of our experience and share them with friends and family in real time. Previous during our other road trips I had taken pictures during our journey and at the end of a long day I’d unpack, shower and then try to upload my pictures and thoughts into something readable for friends and family to follow along. In the end I’m glad I had those posts, but they were exhausting to make each night. I knew there was NO WAY I was going to have the energy for nightly posts this time, and Instagram Stories made it so I could chronicle our journey in real-time and allow friends and family to come along with us. It was super fun.
Of course I eventually used those pictures to come back and write my daily recap posts so I can look back someday and remember all the little details, but I also wanted that IG Story experience to come back alive as well. So I’ve loaded up our whole 5 days journey into iMovie set to some fun road trip classics. I understand this is exciting to exactly me, Adam, and our parents, but I don’t care. Someday when Nellie is a surly middle schooler I can watch this video and remember when she was sweet and perfect and our crazy family of three + 1 dog drove across the country to come home to Seattle.
I can only hope it will sustain me in the darkest of times when she’s grounded for the 17th weekend in a row for being generally terrible to her parents.
