Hello there!
I assume that if you’re at the “About” page of my site you’re a little confused about what the hell is going on over in this corner of the internet.
ME TOO.
Ok, so hi, I’m Ashley.
I’m the Accidental Olympian. Which made a WHOLE lot more sense back when you know, I lived in Olympia, WA. Now I live in Anchorage, AK and all I know is it snows here, it's called a "snowmachine" NOT a "snowmobile" and people tell me that I have to be careful not to hit a moose with my car because it will kill me. Awesome!
This blog came to be because once upon a time I walked into my bosses office a 23 year old college graduate working in book publishing, and a half hour later I walked out, “unemployed.”
Being laid off, relocating to a smaller town called Olympia, WA after being unable to find work in Seattle (get why I’m an “accidental Olympian” yet?), starting over, and taking 6 months to find a job I was HIGHLY over qualified for basically took my self esteem and put it through a meat grinder. Twice.
I’ve spent my time on the internet being oh-so frank about my struggles, both with finding work and how the painful journey to find both economically and emotionally fulfilling employment destroyed my self worth. I’ve talked openly and honestly about my eventual decision to seek therapy as a way to cope with my crippling anxiety, and continue to drone on about my most recent decision to go on antidepressants. FUN TIMES ALL OVER THIS PLACE!
Since things started to get a little too stagnant around here Adam and I decided to move to Alaska.
Ok, that’s a lie, we moved for Adam’s big job promotion and I work from home so my job let me keep doing what I love from far away, but wouldn’t it make me sound way more badass if you thought we did this on some adventurous whim?
So yeah, after two years of emotional turmoil as well as some serious growth, adopting two dogs (Miss Oly, and Stella), and a whole lot of nonsense we’re now continuing the story as Alaskans.
Well, transplants really, and only temporary ones at that, but whatever, I live in ALASKA YOU GUYS.
Stay tuned for moose, that time I captured a polar bear and then domesticated it, and my tips and tricks on making clothing out of salmon skin.
Or something.
